Hopewell Elementary Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Hopewell Elementary students have been exploring the rich rhythms and melodies of Hispanic cultures through music!

Students experienced the sounds of Cuba by playing traditional instruments — drums, güiro (which makes a distinctive scraping sound heard throughout Caribbean music), and claves, deep rhythm sticks that keep the beat alive.

Students also created rhythm patterns with cups to the traditional Mexican song “La Raspa.” They also learned to sing “La Bamba” and even performed a lively traditional Mexican dance, “Los Machetes,” using sticks!

What an amazing way to celebrate culture, movement, and music!
