Banned Books
You CAN check out books that were once challenged

Why do some of our books on display have chains and locks this week?

We’re observing Banned Books Week. Banned Books Week is a yearly event, that celebrates the freedom to read. This year Banned Books Week is September 24th through September 30th.

Where the Wild Things Are, Charlotte’s Web, Harry Potter Series, Junie B. Jones Series, Captain Underpants, The Giver, James and the Giant Peach, and Bridge to Terabithia…What do all of these books have in common besides being beloved books in our collection? You might be surprised by the answer; each book has faced challenges that attempt to restrict or remove it from a library or multiple libraries in the United States. Can you imagine not being able to read about Wilbur and his friendship with Charlotte or the adventures of Harry and the Hogwarts Gang and Max and the Wild Things?

Join us in celebrating the freedom to read and don’t forget to check out our Banned Books display in the media center! You CAN check these books out to read!
